Kobuleti is the same coast as Batumi but without the towers and the bustle. A pebble strip runs the length of the town, and the mountains start a couple of dozen kilometres inland.
What to see
The beach and seafront — several kilometres of pebble.
Mtirala National Park — one of the wettest places in Europe; the name translates as "the weeping mountain".
The Chakvi tea plantations — where Georgian tea growing began in the late 19th century.
Kobuleti nature reserve — wetlands with birds on a migration route.
When to go
June to September for the sea. The water deepens quickly here and the surf is stronger than in Batumi, worth noting if you are not a confident swimmer.
A comparison of every beach on this coast: Batumi beaches.
Every beach here is pebble, and that is the first thing to accept. The second: they differ by the shape of the sea floor, not the surface — some stay shallow for twenty metres, others drop off two steps in. A place-by-place breakdown of who suits which.
