Omalo is the main village of Tusheti, and all its logistics come down to one road over the Abano pass. The Keselo tower complex, where Tushetians retreated during raids, stands above it, and the trails to neighbouring villages start here.
What to see
Keselo fortress — the tower complex above Upper Omalo.
Dartlo — a village of slate roofs and towers, an hour or so on foot, or you can drive there.
Shenako — a 19th-century church and a view of the main range.
Kvavlo — towers above Dartlo, a short but steep climb.
When to go
Roughly June to October. The exact dates each year depend on when the snow clears the pass.
