Keda

Keda is the first stop on the way from Batumi into the mountains. People turn off for the waterfall and the old bridge, and from there the road carries on to Khulo and the Goderdzi pass.

What to see

  • Makhuntseti waterfall — some twenty metres high, half an hour from Batumi.
  • Queen Tamar’s arch bridge — a stone bridge over the Adjaristskali; bridges like it in Adjara are dated to the 11th to 13th centuries.
  • The valley wineries — working with the Chkhaveri grape, barely grown anywhere else.

When to go

May to October. The waterfall runs fuller in spring and after rain, and in summer people swim in the pool below it. The water is cold in any month.
